Stress reduction exercise
Stress is the body's sign to take a break, to rest, to pay attention, to step away. Unluckily, many people are detached from their bodies and are unable to hear the significance. Many people are stressed out, yet they decide to do nothing about it. The stress remains, and it is under these situation that the body begins to deteriorate. Stress signals ignored over a period of time lead to dysfunction in the mind and body. Some common signals of stress are restlessness, irritability, nervousness, anxiousness, worrying. Tension, grinding the teeth, clenching the jaw and fists
Exercise to reduce stress:
There are four stress management exercises that can be done in just a few minutes each day. Almost all stress reducing activity has instant benefits. But one will have much greater benefits if started an activity and stick with it. Relaxation by clearing the mind, this forms the basis for other relaxation procedures like meditation. Reduce distractions, noise and interruptions as much as possible before starting. Sit contentedly, loosen any tight clothing, kick off the shoes, relax and begin to breathe deeply. Mentally focus on one peaceful word, thought or image. If other thoughts enter the mind, do not be discouraged. Now relax, breathe deeply. Enlarge and breathe out to complete the exercise. With the practice this exercise can help to feel refreshed, have more energy and be ready to meet the next challenge.
Progressive muscular relaxation and visualization:
First tighten the hand muscle and make a fist, then notice how it feels. The muscles are taut and strained and the hand may even be trembling slightly. One may feel tension in the hand, wrist and lower arm. Hold this tension for a few seconds before relaxing. Release the hand, relax the fist and let the tension slip away. One may notice the hand feels lighter than it did while the muscle was tensed and that the wrist and forearm are also relieved of pressure. Unlike the exercise on clearing of the mind where the person tries to focus on one single image, visualization allows the imagination to run free. Try to visualize self warm, calm and relaxed. Picture a setting that has particular appeal. Try to imagine all of the details. It gives self a mental vacation whenever and wherever one feels the need to relax.
