Never let them see you sweat, unless you suffer from excessive or profuse sweating, also known as hyperhidrosis, and then you probably can't help it. There are numerous reasons people suffer from profuse sweating, both good and bad, and we'll explore a few here.

The Ugly

No one likes to be seen with dark sweat stains under the arms. It carries with it the connotation of nervousness or un-cleanliness. Chicks don't dig it. Maybe you are just un-clean, in which case you might want to consider showering more than twice a week. Perhaps you are just a nervous person, and you really do sweat in situations where you feel uncomfortable. In this case, it may be that you suffer from a social anxiety disorder, which brings on the profuse sweating, and need to see a mental health professional to help you deal with your problems. Sometimes, however, your profuse sweating may be a symptom of something more sinister.

The Bad

Profuse sweating can be brought on by almost any kind of infection, from pneumonia to endocarditis. These can be quite serious and require immediate medical attention. Isolated instances of profuse sweating may be symptoms of a heart attack or stroke, and should not be ignored. Numerous other life-threatening diseases, such as cancer, hypoglycemia, and autoimmune disorders also carry profuse sweating as a possible symptom. If you suffer from profuse sweating, especially if it's combined with other symptoms, then you should consult a doctor immediately. Fortunately, profuse sweating isn't always a bad thing.

The Good

Sweating should be viewed as a positive thing, because the reason you sweat is so your body can keep from overheating. Many times, profuse sweating can be a reaction to simply wearing too many clothes for the climate you're in, or it may even be hereditary. Simply put, some people sweat more than others. If you do physical work or strenuous exercise, then your profuse sweating is simply your body trying to keep cool. If this is the case then all you need to do is maintain your proper hydration and you should be fine. Plus, the toxins released in the sweat will increase your overall physical health.

Whatever the cause of your profuse sweating, it is never a bad idea to consult a physician and let him know your symptoms. Even if you're an athlete who frequently engages in strenuous training, your profuse sweating could be the first symptom of something more serious.
